2012 Baroque Music Competition
The Utah Baroque Ensemble wishes to announce its 2012 Student Baroque Music Competition, sponsored by Utah Community Credit Union, the Orem CARE program, the Utah Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Competition Rules
- Students must be (a) residents of Utah County and in grades 9-12. Previous 1st-place winners of this competition are not eligible to compete again.
- Applications will be accepted starting January 1, 2012 and must be postmarked by February 28, 2012. No late applications will be accepted. Download your application at www.utahbaroque.org and mail it along with your recorded DVD audition. Total performance time should be no less than 2 1/2 minutes and no more than 8 minutes. (CDs are also acceptable, but DVD auditions are preferred.)
- Students must perform a composition of the Baroque Era. Solo compositions or compositions with two or more solo instruments are acceptable. Transcriptions are acceptable (for example, a flute composition transcribed for oboe.) Keyboard compositions requiring a second keyboard to accompany the soloist are not acceptable.
- Finalists will be invited to perform at a recital at the Orem Public Library on Wednesday, April 4th, 2012 and all will receive $100 awards. One finalist will be selected to perform at the Utah Baroque Ensemble spring concert in Orem on April 29th, 2012, and will receive a scholarship award of $500.
- Students will be judged on general musicianship and implementation of Baroque style. Implementation of Baroque performance style, phrasing, and ornamentation is highly valued. The jury's decisions are final.
