2010 Baroque Music Competition
The Utah Baroque Ensemble wishes to announce its 2010 Student Baroque Music Competition, sponsored by the Bank of American Fork, the Orem CARE program, the Utah Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Competition Rules
- Students must be (a) residents of Orem, Utah, OR (b) since September 2009 a student of a private music teacher who resides and teaches in Orem, OR (c) enrolled in a school in Orem since September 2009. Students must be in grade 10-12. Previous 1st-place winners of this competition are not eligible to compete again.
- A $10 application fee is due with the application. Students who are residents of Orem are not required to pay the fee.
- Application opens January 28th, 2010 and ends February 15th, 2010. Download your application at www.utahbaroque.org. Mail your application with fee, if applicable, to: Utah Baroque Ensemble, Box 1630, Orem, UT, 84059-1630. Applications must be postmarked by February 15th. No late applications will be accepted. Please apply early to ensure timely receipt of your application. We are not responsible for lost mail.
- Students must perform a solo composition of the Baroque Era, or one or more movements from a Baroque-era composition. Transcriptions of Baroque-era composers are acceptable. Piano transcriptions requiring a second pianist to accompany the soloist are not acceptable. Total performance time should be no less than 2½ minutes and no more than 7 minutes. Instrumental, keyboard and vocal selections are all acceptable. Auditions will be held Saturday, March 13th, 2010.
- Students must provide their own accompanists for the audition and the performance. Compositions requiring accompaniment should be performed at the audition with an accompanist. The winning student must be available to perform at the Baroque Ensemble concert in Orem on Sunday evening, April 18th, 2010.
- Students will be judged on general musicianship and implementation of Baroque performance style. The jury's decisions are final.
- The $1,000 award may be awarded to one student or divided between winners at the discretion of the jury. Additional awards may be available and will be announced before the date of application. All awards will be publicly presented at the spring UBE concert on April 18th, 2010.
- Winners must agree to have their names, parents’ names, and picture published in local newspapers. A short bio of the winning student may be printed in the concert program or published in the newspaper.
